After a dedicated 18-month period of conception, implementation, and enhancement, the inaugural e-book of the All-Atlantic Blue Schools Network (AA-BSN) has been launched! This remarkable e-book serves as a platform for sharing narratives and insights, highlighting the fusion of ocean literacy and societal awareness within schools across Atlantic nations. The AA-BSN actively inspires educational institutions to develop initiatives tailored to their unique socio-economic contexts, fostering a collective drive towards nurturing ocean literacy and paving the way for a more vibrant and sustainable future.
Booklet AtlantECO | AA-BSN
Launched on June 8th, 2023 the booklet was a collaboration AtlantECO and the All-Atlatic Blue Schools Network, with support from the ASTRAL, Náuticos and AANChOR projects, to present a collection of questions posed by curious kids, meticulously answered by devoted scientists who have dedicated their lives to unraveling the wonders of our marine ecosystems. With each turn of the page, we plunge into the depths of the sea, unveiling its secrets and expanding our knowledge.
Ocean Literacy Dialogues – Santos 2022
The first in person AA-BSN National Coordinators meeting took place in October 2022 in Brazil. It was an unique opportunity to share experiences, learnings, and knowledge to promote a broad discussion concerning Ocean Literacy in the Atlantic Blue Schools. Moreover, three roundtables were undertaken to amplify the discussion with different stakeholders (from teachers and students to Museums and Aquariums) to show that Ocean Literacy is about and made with all.
All-Atlantic Forum: priority areas
In July 2022 a new All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Declaration was signed in Washington, D.C., USA, by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Cabo Verde, European Union, Morocco, South Africa, and the United States, to join forces to tackle challenges on priority areas such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, ecosystem protection and restoration, and sustainable and inclusive ocean economy. To give voice to students, the AA-BSN encouraged Blue Schools students to share their knowledge about these priority areas. The videos produced were showcased during the High Level Meeting when the new declaration was signed.
United Nation Ocean Conference 2022
During the United Nation Ocean Conference 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal, students from the Atlantic Blue Schools Brazil, Ireland, and Namibia exchanged knowledge with students and ocean professionals from Blue Schools Portugal. A variety of questions were asked, from ocean conservation, Blue Schools projects to local ocean curiosities. Watch the videos to hear the answers!

Booklet series Bridging the Ocean
The All-Atlantic Ocean Youth Ambassadors launched in June 2022 a first edition of the booklet series Bridging the Ocean - a collective of concepts and conversations focused on the ocean in relation to bringing awareness to the challenges the ocean is facing. The first edition was called Oceanic Cycles and had the support of the AA-BSN. It is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
UNESCO Campus
UNESCO Campus had a special edition on June 8th, 2022 to celebrate collective actions towards a sustainable ocean. Students from Blue Schools from Portuguese-speaking countries (Angola, Brazil, and Portugal) interacted with senior researchers and ocean experts on a great discussion about the ocean, Ocean Literacy and more! Get inspired by the students.
All-Atlantic Talks
Did you know that the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance has a podcast called All-Atlantic Talks? In January 2022, the AA-BSN cocoordinators Ronaldo Christofoletti and Raquel Costa joined the All-Atlantic Youth Ambassador Thando Mazomba and the researcher from the South African Environmental Observation Network Caitlin Ranson to discuss the concept of Blue Schools and the activities carried out along the Atlantic in the scope of Ocean Literacy.
